The birds can’t help but listen to their territorial instincts again.

Whether it is about food or they are already experiencing the spring fever… They all are chasing each other. (blackbirds, finches, robins, dunnocks…)

But one magpie in particular catches my attention. It’s challenging a crow. It looks like they are arguing about a future nesting place.

Crows are smart, I think, but unfortunately they do not have the most positive image. (Because of the movies?!?) They open walnuts by dropping them from high in the air. Or wait for a car to drive over them. Clever, isn’t it?

And the red- billed chough ( Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), a relative of the crow that lives in the Alps, is absolutely the best. It makes beautiful dizzying dives in the mountain landscape.

De vogels hebben weer last van territoriumdrift.

Of het nu om eten gaat of ze reeds de lentekriebels ervaren…. Ze jagen allemaal elkaar achterna. (merels, vinken, roodborstjes, heggenmussen…)

Maar vooral een ekster trekt mijn aandacht.  Deze is in gevecht met een kraai.  Hier gaat het precies wel om een toekomstige nestplaats.

Kraaien zijn slim, vind ik, maar helaas hebben ze niet het meest positieve imago. (Film ?!?)  Ze openen okkernoten door deze van hoog te laten vallen. Of wachten tot er een auto overheen rijdt. Knap, toch ?

En de alpenkraai (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), is helemaal de max. Deze maakt prachtige duizelingwekkende duikvluchten.
